What I do

Six kinds of work come through the door

Some of it is the everyday hemming and taking in. A good part of it is the work other sewing rooms would rather not take on.

Alterations and repairs

Hems taken up, seams taken in, zips replaced, splits closed. The everyday work that keeps good clothes in the wardrobe instead of the bin.

  • Hemming
  • Taking in and letting out
  • Zip replacement
  • Seam and tear repairs

Wedding and formal

Wedding dress, formal dress and men's suit alterations, plus bespoke work, taken from the way it fits now to the way it should.

  • Wedding dress alterations
  • Formal and party dresses
  • Men's suit alterations
  • Bespoke pieces

Cleaning without nasty chemicals

Wedding dresses, party dresses, silk and anything that needs extra care, plus everyday clothing, using spot cleaning techniques and no nasty chemicals.

  • Wedding and party dresses
  • Silk and delicates
  • Everyday clothing
  • Spot cleaning

Curtains and cushions

Curtain hemming, and made to measure cushion covers for indoor and outdoor, boats and caravans.

  • Curtain hemming
  • Indoor cushion covers
  • Outdoor cushion covers
  • Boat and caravan covers

Leather and canvas

Leather jacket zips, and working with canvas or leather materials. The heavier end of the work, which not every sewing room takes on.

  • Leather jacket zips
  • Canvas work
  • Leather repairs
  • Heavy weight fabrics

Rugs, tents and awnings

Horse rug repairs, and repairs to tents, banners, awnings and the like. If it is stitched, it can usually be saved.

  • Horse rug repairs
  • Tents
  • Banners
  • Awnings
Cleaning

Your own dry cleaner, without the nasty chemicals

Wedding dresses, party dresses, silk and any garment that needs extra care, plus all your everyday clothing, cleaned with spot cleaning techniques rather than a tank of solvent. Strathalbyn has its own cleaner, on Donald Street.

Before and after

Not everything needs replacing

The work

On the table

The workroom

Run by Tulin, on Donald Street

Adelaide Hills Alterations is Tulin's workroom. She and her family made Strathalbyn their home, and the shop has become the place people bring the things they would rather not give up on: a wedding dress, a suit that never quite fitted, work trousers with a tear through them, the boat cushions that have gone in the sun.

It is Tulin's own workroom and Tulin's own machine, so you are dealing with the person doing the work from start to finish.

Tulin is an absolute delight to work with. She beautifully transformed a dress I had into an elegant, wearable skirt, and the result exceeded all expectations. Her craftsmanship and attention to detail are truly exceptional, every finish was carefully considered and executed to perfection. Beyond her skill, Tulin is also a genuinely warm and lovely person, making the entire experience enjoyable from start to finish. I would not hesitate to recommend her to anyone seeking thoughtful, high-quality alterations or bespoke work.

Tulin is one of Strathalbyn's local lovely legends! We've taken all of our clothing repairs to her this year, and she did such an incredible job on my partners chainsaw pants. Her repair work is SO incredibly neat, tidy and strong! To also find someone whose kind, present and very efficient feels like a god send to our community. We love your work Tulin!

Lovely young lady - possibly Tulin? I was there today and she showed me around her shop which is in the old movie theatre that my father owned in the 1960s. I didn't have any alterations for her to do and I just needed to see inside the old theatre again and she was so kind. Thank you so much lovely lady. Kind regards, Kris.
